winter storm watch in effect Confidence is increasing that a late season winter storm is poised to impact portions of the Kivalliq coast and portions inland Thursday evening through Sunday. On Friday, as the storm strengthens, near zero visibility in falling and blowing snow is possible as strong winds develop and possibly gust in excess of 90 km/h. General snowfall amounts of 10 to 20 cm appear likely by storm's end. There is still uncertainty in the exact track of this system which leads to the potential for varying conditions across the region. Conditions will improve as the system pulls out of the region Sunday into early next week. ### Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility in some locations. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to [email protected] or tweet reports using #NUStorm. Avoid travel if possible. Protect yourself from wind, cold and disorientation by staying sheltered, indoors or with your vehicle.
