Coastal Flood Advisory issued May 8 at 4:21AM EDT until May 8 at 11:00PM EDT by NWS Upton NY * WHAT...Up to one foot of inundation above ground level expected in vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline. * WHERE...Southern Nassau County. * WHEN...From 8 PM to 11 PM EDT this evening. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in the more vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline. Some roads and low lying properties including parking lots, parks, lawns, and homes and businesses with basements near the waterfront will experience minor flooding. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Additional coastal flooding is expected for Thursday and Friday night's high tide cycles. If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone property.

Marine Weather Statement issued May 8 at 8:16AM EDT by NWS Upton NY A Marine Weather Statement has been issued for the following areas... Sandy Hook NJ to Montauk Point out 40 NM... Central Long Island Sound... Peconic and Gardiners Bays... Long Island South Shore Bays... At 815 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated strong thunderstorms, capable of producing winds to around 30 knots, small hail, and lightning. These thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Long Neck Point to near Oyster Bay Harbor to near Entrance to New York Harbor, moving east at 45 knots. Mariners can expect gusty winds to around 30 knots, locally higher waves, and lightning strikes. Boaters should seek safe harbor immediately until these storms pass.

At 757 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated strong thunderstorms along a line extending from 6 nm southwest of Eastchester Bay to near Lower New York Harbor to Port Monmouth to near Belmar, moving NE at 45 kt. Thunderstorms will be near... Sandy Hook Bay, Lower New York Harbor, Rockaway Inlet, The Verrazano Narrows Bridge, and Upper New York Harbor around 800 AM. Jamaica Bay around 805 AM. Entrance to New York Harbor around 820 AM. Barnum Island, Island Park, and Middle Bay around 825 AM. Jones Beach around 835 AM. Mariners can expect brief heavy rain and a few lightning strikes.

Movement was east at 50 mph. HAZARD...Winds in excess of 30 mph and pea size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to outdoor objects is possible. Locations impacted include... Islip, Brentwood, Levittown, Freeport, Valley Stream, Commack, Riverhead, Long Beach, Huntington Station, Centereach, Shirley, Deer Park, Lindenhurst, Plainview, and Medford. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.
